Recipe Instructions

Step 1
Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat and lightly oil the grate.
Step 2
Heat oil in a nonstick saucepan over medium heat. Add shallots and garlic; cook gently until fragrant, but not brown. Stir in mirin, black bean sauce, and soy sauce. Bring to a boil; cook until reduced by half. Remove from heat; stir in vinegar and set aside.
Step 3
Meanwhile, pat dry halibut fillets. Rub with sesame oil; season with black pepper.
Step 4
Grill halibut until just cooked through, about 5 minutes per side. Sprinkle with cilantro and pour sauce over top to serve.

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon black bean sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 shallots, finely chopped
  • 6 (4 ounce) fillets halibut, skin removed
  • 0.25 teaspoon pepper
  • 0.5 cup mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
